- Dec 11, 2016 Baldur's Gate series Reccomended Mods for BG 2 EE (8 posts) (8. There is an Enhanced Edition Trilogy mod as well. From what I've read that seems to be it for mods,in regards to Baldur's Gate II that I would have any interest in using since most of the rest is difficulty mods or probably not really in line.
- Jan 25, 2013 Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition (BGEE) was, for many, a welcomed update for an old but beloved game. While more recent offerings in the same spirit such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect blend great storytelling with much more powerful technology, for many gamers there has long been an allure to old classics that really set the bar in their day.

My mandatory mods, that I use for every playthrough:Tweaks Anthology (formerly known as Tweak Pack). This has just got so many nice little fixes, adjustments, and ease of use things. Unlimited ammo stacking, fix broken dialogue triggers, alter things to bring them more in line with PnP, get rid of obnoxious visual effects.
It allows you to really tailor your BG experience and is a must-have.SCS It's a difficulty mod, so maybe not the best for first timers, but it just does so much to open up the game. It pushes you to make use of your wider repertoire of spells, potions, and other items, rather than just plowing through 90% of encounters with the same setup. It's also fair, which is huge. It makes the game more difficult just by teaching the AI to make use of all its options.Rogue Rebalancing It does a nice job of refining the Thief and Bard kits to make them more balanced, and in particular changes HLAs so they no longer obsolete the Bounty Hunter's strengths or the Blade's weaknesses. Much more important to me, though, is that it revises how thieving works. If you're caught pickpocketing or shoplifting, instead of everyone turning hostile, the victim will confront you.
You can talk your way out of it depending on your stats, up to three times, getting progressively harder each time. If you fail, or get caught more than three times, the person will refuse to sell you things and your reputation will decrease. It's beautiful, and it makes high Pickpocketing a lot of fun and something you'll try out often, rather than just a thing where you'll reload ten times just to get a silver ring.NPC Strongholds: Exactly what it sounds like. If you do a Stronghold quest and your character isn't eligible (or turns it down), it can be offered to any eligible NPCs instead.
It will then play out as normal, except they'll be making any decisions, instead of you (although you can still advise and occasionally even have the final word). It's a lot of fun. They also try to keep it within reason, RP-wise. Well, that's going to depend on what version you have.
Either way, the Big World Project is probably going to be your best bet, but if you have EE it's mandatory as some mods don't work properly without it.For SCS, I use all the Gameplay Tweaks, AI Enhancements, and Tactical Challenges. I use most of the spell tweaks (I think the only ones I avoid are the cosmetic ones) and about half of the Item Tweaks (I like the ones that move ridiculously powerful items like the Robe of Vecna into ToB, but I'm not a fan of replacing +1 weapons with 'Fine' ones. Just doesn't feel like BG for some reason).
I use all the Cosmetic and Ease-Of-Use Tweaks except the one that moves Boo into Minsc's backpack. Boo is special and deserves his own quick item slot. Also, be warned that the combo of SCS and Ascension makes for a truly difficult (but epic) ToB experience. Depends how much you want to adjust.Small changes like SCS and Ascension are well favored. ATweaks and Tweaks Anthology are great for minor adjustments and bug fixes that you can choose individually.
Portraits Everywhere is well done, and actually adds a nice touch that I didn't know I always wanted. Some of the bigger ones that I like will adjust enough to change the way you play throughout the game. Spell revisions and Item revisions make changes to all items and spells that tend to make more sense overall. Unfinished Business is one of the better quest mods that adds the content that didn't make it in the released game.
I'm not really a fan of most NPC mods, as the writing and voice acting is pretty bad, but out of all of them, I do like Afaaq the Djinni. He doesn't soak up a companion slot either, and you can stuff him in his lamp if he becomes a burden.Really, the way I figured them all out was by getting Big World Setup and reading the information of each mod in the list and trying them out. I would recommend starting small though, as too many mods can really mess up the game. Good luck!. Just an edit of something I once wrote, not touching stuff others mentioned too much.

They tweak/ fix/ enhance the spell/ items, making lots of spells more interesting, etc. You'll have to read the spellbook again. They work well with the popular SCS mod too.The expands the items that can be upgraded by cromwell/ cespenar.

NPC specific upgrades, beefing up under utitlised categories and saving you inventory space. Nothing too OP.Bonus mention:, not really all that popular, adds portraits to most/ all npc's that don't have one previously. It really breathes some life into the game, much more so than I'd have thought from this description.More I didn't mention, trying to keep it not too long.
