  1. Adaptive Brightness Not Turning Off Windows 10

Jul 08, 2016  In case you cannot locate the Adaptive Display settings, chances are that your laptop may not have a built-in ambient light sensor. If disabling the Adaptive Brightness in the advanced power options didn’t do anything, then you need to disable the Sensor Monitoring service. I'd be happy to help you with your adaptive brightness settings. I understand you have changed the settings in the power options, but that the screen still dims. Have you gone into the advanced settings to disable the adaptive brightness in the Display options? Automatic Brightness not turning off? I'm not sure if. The Adaptive Brightness setting in Windows 10 is a useful setting you can use in adjusting your computer’s brightness. It helps you get the brightness automatically based on the light around your computer. However, there are times when it does not work or it doesn’t turn off when you want it to.

Sometimes I like to work on my notebook while sitting in the dark and drinking a strong cup of coffee. I have to manually adjust the screen brightness to suit the ambient light in the room. If it is a little darker in the room, then the screen brightness has to be turned down a little to avoid stress on the eyes and if the room is well lit, then I can work even with the brightness turned up to the maximum. But if you have an ambient light sensor in your notebook computer, then you can make use of the adaptive brightness controls in Windows 10 to make it automatically adjust the screen brightness to match the ambient light brightness level. This is not only comfortable for the eyes, but also saves the notebook battery.By default the adaptive screen brightness is turned off.

Here is how you can enable the adaptive screen brightness in Windows 10:. Press the hotkey Win+R in your keyboard.

This will open the Run dialog. In the Run dialog, type control powercfg.cpl,1 and press Enter. This will open the Advanced Power Options window. In the Advanced Power Options window, scroll down the list of options.

Expand the option Display and then Enable Adaptive Brightness. Next to the Setting, select On from the drop-down list. Click on the OK button to save the settings. After you have enabled the adaptive brightness control in Windows, you can try switching off the room light or pulling the curtains in the Windows and see how your computer’s screen brightness level changes. It need not be mentioned that this adaptive brightness control works only if your computer has ambient light sensor in it.Conclusion: It is very easy to turn on the adaptive screen brightness in Windows 10 to let it automatically adjust the screen brightness as the ambient light brightness level increases or decreases. It is useful for reducing stress on the eyes and making your computer’s battery last longer.

Hello everyone!I'm stuck with a very weird problem I can't solve. I'm not a full-on reading binary style tech person but I'm using computers (and fix their problems) since forever and never ran against a wall like this:My Dell M3800 laptop turned on the adaptive brightness feature again that I disabled almost three years ago. Now it's pretty much useless in dim environments because the screen gets so dark. Also every option windows normally has to switch it off is gone. Not greyed out, it's just not there (Both in the legacy power options and in te new UI).Around the same time it happend that windows decided to get rid of the old power profiles and instead only show the 'balanced' one that comes with the power options slider when you click on the battery icon in the tray. I had that briefly and then the slider disappeard along with the option of turning adaptive brightness OFF.This makes me MAD. I deleted and restored the default power plans in several ways.

I changed all (all I found, though) corresponding registry entries to disable adaptive brightness. I checked the registry for the the option to show the switching-option being ENABLED. I even stopped the windows service for the ambient light sensorNo change. Any Wizards around?Daniel.
