I find it a little disappointing that after murdering the emperor of tamriel, all the dark brotherhood gets is a new sanctuary. Are there any mods that make them have more of a presence in skyrim such as adding some hideouts with vendors and such, secret caches of weapons and potions hidden in cities, or perhaps maybe even some new quests?

So I spent the last couple of hours trying and testing the mods floating around the nexus which tackle the Dark Brotherhood. And I have to say I am deeply disappointed as most of them are outdated, CTD-prone and bugridden. And no, the issues I faced have nothing to do with my game, because I tested them on a freshly installed skyrim on my Laptop. So unless there is a major mod which is not being shown to me while searching for I tried the first two and 'save the dark brotherhood' a bit further down.I will explain what I liked and disliked about each mod and why all of these leave me unsatisfied in the end.
Note that I had to clean each and every of these mods manually as they contained deleted navmeshes, dirty edits and several ITM records.Let's start with a somewhat decent mod:The mod basically does what it describes, you can actively prevent the HQ from being smoked and can save some of the members in return. Nothing special after all, because it does not really add anything new, despite functioning well overall. I just wish it did also clean up and retexture the HQ a bit. Anyhow, if you felt like that saving your DB fellows was a thing to do, get it.A beautifier that does what it says but needs to be properly cleaned as well:Well, not much to say here other that it makes the Sanctuary look pretty after you are done with the quest line and adds some questionable things like npcs to torture.
Does not expand the questline or add anything new in that regard. And now, the mod that let my hopes go high, but let me fall even harder as a result:Yea, Part 1 of. The mod adds two followers which frequently cause the game to crash when you use them, but makes a decent attempt at restoring the sanctuary to a somewhat decent place worth living in and operation from. If you manually delete the followers (and basically accept that you have to quick save every second minute in the 'new' quest part, it is a somewhat decent mod). Other than that, it is old, lacks a compatibility section and contains so much dirty stuff that it will likely break a modded game. This could have been so much more and I wish someone would pick it up and fix it or try to create something similar to finally give the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim an ending it deserves or extends what we have to a better state. While the vanilla questline is really good, there is still a lot of unused potential and I am quite sad that no mod was able to fully unleash it so far.
Which is actually quite surprising since the 'stealth archer' playstyle (I know it's quite the meme aswell) was very common among the major population of skyrim players and such a playstyle usually involves the DB.Edit: Including it in mainpost, explanation of what I would like to see in DB (thanks )Alright, lengthy explanation inc:I feel like the whole Dark Brotherhood questline is about restoring the guild to it's former glory (being more than just a myth to scare children in their beds) and making them an influential force in the civil war and stabilizing the region.Wait what? Yes.There is a quest in the storyline which involves assassinating the Emperor. This should probably be one of the most destabilizing acts commited to the Imperial Empire. I always envisioned being able to place the tracks to whatever you want the Empire to go to war with.Dislike the Thalmors because they are racist and entitled? Blame the assassination on them by placing clues and subsequently shattering the alliance and nullifying the White-Gold-Concordate.Hate the Stormclocks and you love the 'Age of Aggression?' Don't assassinate the Emperor but get rid of Ulfric instead and end the civil war before it even fully starts and shatter the rebellion. Why do you I even have to assassinate Victoria Vici?
What if I am roleplaying as an Imperial who wants to actually use his stealth, assassination and sneaking talents to help stabilize the region?Hate the Imperial Legion? Terminate the Emperor and throw Elisif and Tullius down the cliffs and then set up riots in Solitude to destabilize the city.I personally do not envision the DB as a unorginazed bunch of psychopaths but as a smartly operated faction, which does not want to destabilize and enitre region solely because of gold. Yes, basically everyone can perform the black sacrament and wish death upon highly influential people.
But that doesn't even make sense, the Listerner should be able to refuse 'contracts' because they might cause major backlashes and harm the organisation as a whole. (Due to sloppy management, the hideout near Falkreath gets entirely obliterated).Give me an option to get rid of Cicero right at the start of his madness. I know, the Tennets actually forbid the assassination on guild members, but what about locking the jester up in a cell? I know, the Tennets actually forbid the assassination on guild members, but what about locking the jester up in a cell? While I think these all sound like awesome ideas, I disagree that the DB should care at all about politics. The members of the DB care about 2 things: killing people and Sithis (who likes it when people get killed). While I think your ideas would make for a really awesome Assassin's Guild, they wouldn't necessarily make for a better Dark Brotherhood.
You mentioned that the DB needs a Immersive College of Winterhold makeover, but that mod doesn't change any of the quests for the College. It sounds like what you really want is a way to not be forced to assassinate the emperor, which might be possible with a mod, but I don't know for sure.I would like to see an Assassin's Guild now though. Less religious zealots, more Ezio Auditore. The members of the DB care about 2 things: killing people and Sithis (who likes it when people get killed).I agree. But coming closer to the end of the questline, you gain more power and influence in the guild, which should at least give you the CHOICE of attempting to change the guild. Every member constantly moans about in what kind of a terrible state the DB is currently in and they are not taken seriously anymore, so why not change something already? Trying to prevent the assassination on the emperor instead of executing it for example, leading you to be expelled from the Brotherhood until the hideout get's destroyed and you reinstance the DB in the Dawnstar Sanctuary leading it with your visions and ideas.Yea well, at first I thought some simple overhaul would do the job, but the more I spent time thinking about the matter, the more I realized how fundamentally wrong the DB questline is and that there are lots of missed opportunities to make it truly amazing and give the player more of a choice.
After all, the player gets shoehorned into being the dragonborn, archmage, neo, superman, keanu reeves. So why not give him the power to alter it to his will?.
I had an idea to overhaul the Dark Brotherhood ForeverI love playing in the Dark Brotherhood, but eventually it gets tedious. Dark Brotherhood forever is nice the first couple times. But then, it's always the same 'Go meet person A at place A, now kill person B at place B'. And since there are limited choices, eventually it repeats, and there's no challenge! No fun!So here's my idea, Dark Brotherhood Forever Overhauled: The Night Mother chooses a random, non-essential NPC and asks you to kill them.
You also may get a condition: Kill them in day/night, kill them in public/no witnesses, use a certain method, etc.Of course, you can refuse a contract, and once you get one you can later cancel the mission. That will be especially useful if you still need the NPC for a quest, or if it is impossible to fulfill the mission (i.e, being told to kill them in public when they are a hermit).
